“Service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth..”
— Muhammad Ali
My personal philosophy is encapsulated in the Latin phrase Officium Serviendi, which translates to “duty to serve.” I am of the firm belief that our ultimate purpose in life is to improve the world and the lives of those around us by serving others. As Ghandi said, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others.”
The manner in which we serve may shift over the course of our lifetimes and I’ve been blessed with finding many different ways to serve.
I began my journey by serving as an EMT, firefighter, and dive rescue team member. Later in life, my wife and I served as advocates for organ donation following our daughter’s passing and donation. Most recently, I have been serving as both a public servant in state government and an elected official in municipal government.
I continue to seek out new ways to serve.
